Auto part replacements exist for a reason. For instance, Volvo distributor rotors have replacements because one simply cannot believe in the notion of everlasting Volvo Distributor rotors. No Volvo Distributor rotor endures for more than a few months and if one is really quite careful with such things, the distributor rotor may even last for a number of years. But that's the limit. No distributor rotor can work, day in and day out, without having the wear and the tear of the job grow apparent and affect the material of the said part. Age does have a way of reducing the desirability of a number of things, of dragging the functionality as well as performance ratings of a part to ever lower levels and the distributor rotor is no different from these.
Parts are done to serve a specific purpose within a relatively short span of time. After that, the only places fit for them are the junk yards. This is the way the world works. When something is pass its time and prime, one has to let go. Or if that is not yet the case, to learn how to let go.
This is why the notion of replacements is very much alive in the industry. After discarding an old part and removing it to keep the defective component from contaminating any particular car assembly, one feels confident in knowing that one's car parts operate in the way they ought to, smoothly, without hitches and glitches. No sense, after all, in employing a part that can no longer deliver. In the end, factory-issued-parts or replacements, what one has to make sure of is that the Volvo distributor inside is running without problems, and still has a good many years in it. That way, one can be satisfied with the quality of the part and the resulting road performance of the car.
