Also called the Pearl of the Orient, Penang is one of Asia's most well-known islands. The natural beauty and striking heritage of this place have been attracting inquisitive visitors for centuries. For the travel guides Penang is ". . . a place of mysterious temples and palm-shrouded beaches", while the great writer Somerset Maugham is known to have lived in this island being captivated by its natural beauty. It provoked him to write romantic tales which were accepted by the world with great enthusiasm.

Today, Penang is an amalgamation of the Orient and the Occident - a busy port, a heritage city and an industrialized base. Such a town, in which old tradition embraces the new, is sure to become one of the most amazing tourist destinations of the world. To accommodate so many tourists, the hotels in Penang have developed gregariously.

Penang Hotels are broadly categorized into luxury hotels and economy hotels. The luxury hotels offer a wide number of services and facilities to the guests. Mostly, the luxury hotels have two or three swimming pools (both outdoor and indoor), golf ground, facility for indoor and outdoor games and also beauty treatment services. Sauna bath, Jacuzzi and steam bath are also available in these hotels.

The economy hotels on the other hand provide certain basic facilities like attached bath with perhaps cold and hot water services, attached balcony with a view of the landscape outside and room services. You can also find some basic rooms amenities like television and telephone connection 9this is common for the luxury hotels and the high economy hotels).

The most interesting thing about the luxury as well as the economy hotels in Penang is the presence of the travel desk. The travel desk arranges for various excursions to distant tourist places. The tourists do not face any difficulty to explore the magnificence of this beautiful landscape.

At Penang you can explore the beautiful market places which is subdivided into wet market (selling fish and meat of various kinds), and dry market which sells vegetables. There is a separate division of electronic goods market. The temples at Penang speak volume about the ancient days when they were brought into existence.

Moreover, Little India and Chinatown are some of the nice places for your visit. The idyllic sea beaches, with the soft breeze may remain etched to your memory forever. An evening at the Penang beach will leave an indelible mark in your mind. Come and enjoy this beautiful place.
