Businesses and Industries That Utilize Thermal Paper

Small, medium and large businesses have benefited from the use of thermal paper. Let's look at some of them:
Groceries and supermarkets - The # 1 consideration for using thermal paper is convenience. Convenience equals speed and accuracy. People can be impatient, especially when they have to wait in the check out line. Cashiers also demonstrate increased productivity, because thermal paper relieves them of some of their manual tasks. Instead of writing out a receipt for a transaction, they simply swipe the card into the machine and the thermal paper receipt comes out in seconds.
Restaurants - Again, the convenience of thermal paper is the most attractive advantage that restaurants benefit from. Whether it is a fast food or high-end gourmet food restaurant, the quick processing of receipts is a key element in efficient and speedy transactions. After enjoying his haute cuisine meal and fine wine, a customer can easily forget his exquisite dining experience and become frustrated because he has to wait half an hour for his payment and receipt to be processed - the use of thermal paper helps eliminate that potential source of frustration. Restaurants that run a brisk business have a high level of customer turnover; there is a constant stream of diners arriving and leaving the restaurant. Streamlining the payment process is an excellent way of helping cashiers handle that volume on a daily basis.

Gas stations - There are gas stations that require you to pay the cashier directly and there are those who let you pay at the pump. Either way, what is needed are speed and convenience, and thermal paper helps to make that speed and convenience possible. Add to that the benefit of efficiency as well as the capability on the part of gas station owners and managers to keep track of promotions, discounts and audit trails.

Gaming and entertainment - Depending on the lottery rules of a state or province, lottery tickets can be claimed up to 12 months after the winning combination is picked. This makes it essential for lottery outlets to have thermal paper that is sturdy and is not subject to fading. Also, when lottery holders or horse betters claim their prize money, the ticket is simply scanned into the computer or a bar code machine to determine the amount of money to be paid out. In the gaming business, thermal paper offers printing versatility, security and tracking features.

Travel and Transportation - Obviously the airline industry will need top grade thermal paper to print airline tickets, boarding passes and baggage tags. Thermal paper allows people who issue these kinds of documents to be more responsive to customers' needs because of speed and accuracy. The same is true for bus drivers and toll highway cashiers and parking attendants, although in these cases, thermal paper does not have to be top-grade, unlike the airline industry that requires readable and robust thermal paper.

Health Care- Print outs of machines that monitor and examine patients have to be quick, accurate and legible. One of the wonders of thermal paper is that it can clearly print text and graphics; this includes diagrams and health charts. Given the availability of varying thermal paper sizes, much of the printing that goes on in health care establishments is streamlined to make the doctor-patient relationship an efficient one, both from an administrative and logistic standpoint.
Marketing firms- When a marketing blitz is planned, requirements may range from coupon kiosks and loyalty programs to customer history reports. This is where the versatility of thermal paper can boost a firm's marketing efforts. Pole displays, label and promotional sign printing and scales can all be set up using thermal paper. Quality presentations may be further enhanced with thermal paper because of the paper's "glossy" feature.

Sales groups- Sales executives who want to monitor cash register receipts can draw useful information that is printed on thermal paper. Not only can thermal paper reveal actual sales numbers, but also stock numbers and price verifications. Practically any kind of data can be printed on thermal paper, thanks to its high speed, crystal clear graphic images, quiet operation and low maintenance.

Word of caution: If you are planning to use thermal paper for your business, ensure that you do not sacrifice quality for cost. Cheap thermal paper will wreak havoc on your machines in the long term. And when machines do not work as smoothly as they should because the paper keeps jamming, then the speed and convenience offered by thermal paper are negated. Also, make sure you follow the specifications of the machine printer's manufacturer as to what type of thermal paper should be used. Certain machines are not designed for some thermal paper, so do not be tempted to use another kind of paper just to save on costs! It will end up costing you a whole lot more in the long run.
