Acai (Pronounced AH-SAH-EE) is a Brazilian berry packed with protein, fiber, and essential vitamins and minerals. Acai fruit or more commonly known as the acai berry is also extremely rich in omega fatty acids and disease-fighting antioxidants. These omega fatty acids are the good fatty acids that help protect the body against cancer and other debilitating diseases. These all-important fatty acids are also found in fish. Unfortunately, most of us do not consume enough of these disease deterring fatty acids.

Acai berries have more than 10 times the antioxidants than grapes and twice as many found in blueberries. It's no wonder acai fruit has been crowned the world's #1 superfood. Until the mainstream discovery of the acai berry, blueberries reigned supreme. The acai berry has been used for centuries as a premium natural energy supplement that:

* Assists in weight loss
* Detoxifies the body of impurities
* Boosts energy levels
* Improves mental clarity
* Increases libido
* And much more

Acai fruit has the symmetry of a grape and the size of a giant blueberry. The taste is similar to a wild raspberry with a hint of grape flavor. Many people have difficulty describing the flavor because it is such a unique taste but delicious nonetheless.

Acai berries grow on Amazon palm tree and have a very short "shelf life" once picked. Acai fruit begins to compose within 24 hours of being removed from the tree. This requires acai products such as juices, powders, capsules, and other supplements to be manufactured almost instantly. This process often drives up the cost of premium acai products. Be aware that there are acai products, especially juices, that contain very little acai. Instead, other fruit juices make up the bulk of the content. Avoid these low quality products at all costs.

Lemons, limes, and other citrus fruits are also packed with the same phytonutrients just not as many as the acai berry. Consuming tart cherries has shown positive results in relieving arthritis symptoms and fibromyalgia. The benefits of consuming these citrus fruits and acai don't end with arthritis relief. Scientist are finding even more exciting health benefits of taking acai everyday.

Remember, eating a balanced is an essential first step to improving your health. A diet rich in vegetables, whole grains, fruits, non-fat dairy products, beans, lean meats, poultry, and fish will have long-lasting effects on your overall health. Incorporating the remarkable acai berry into your diet regimen will certainly ward off the signs of aging and protect your body against many diseases. Here's to your health and well being.
