Your prom dress can often be bland without fantastic jewelry to complete your look. Finding the right jewelry is not always an easy process considering the wide variety of styles to choose from. It can be difficult to find what will perfectly fit your style, budget and overall prom look that you are trying to achieve.

It is important to purchase your prom dress before buying your jewelry since the shape and color of your dress can drastically change how the jewelry looks on you. This year, prom is all about bold choices that stand out, so you do not have to be subtle with your jewelry choices either.

For the 2009 prom season, the most popular jewelry style is gold. Many designers are promoting gold dresses, which come in all shapes and sizes. If you choose to wear a metallic gold dress, you may not want to choose large jewelry pieces, since they could detract from the beauty for the dress. However, if you choose other colors and prints for your dress, you should strongly consider pairing it with large jewelry pieces in gold. You can even combine gold with other bold colors, wearing chunky jewelry pieces that stand out.

"Chunky" jewelry styles are extremely popular this season as well, especially for bracelets. Instead of a delicate tennis bracelet, opt for a larger piece that can be worn in conjunction with simple rings. You do not have to be incredibly formal with your bracelets, instead try some large plastic bracelets in bright colors that can really pop against a classic dress choices. If your dress is a print, think about white or black chunky bracelets, and if you choose a dress that is a bold solid color, pick bracelets that are a contrasting color for a bold look. Pink jewelry is also a popular choice for this season.

You can stick to traditional jewelry choices, however, if you want a more sophisticated look. Gold is great, but if you choose to wear silver instead, be sure to think about pieces that have a lot of jewels. Diamonds, whether they are real or cubic zirconium, as well as jewelry with large, interesting designs, are big this prom season. Jewelry with designs are often hard to match with dresses, therefore if you choose to wear a large jeweled piece for prom, it is a good idea to bring your dress along while shopping to try on the pieces together.

This season, large, dangling earrings are the most popular earring styles. You can find a number of matching necklace and earring sets, but no one says that you have to wear jewelry that perfectly matches in style and color. Instead, look for similar colors and shapes, which work well together with your dress.

Making sure that your jewelry and dress work well together is the best way to ensure that you obtain that overall stunning appearance. As previously stated, bulkier pieces of jewelry are extremely popular this year. However, if you wear too many big pieces of jewelry, it will distract others from your naturally beautiful look. You want to find trinkets that will complement one another, not overwhelm.

Jewelry is not only meant to wear on your body. You can also find sparkly jewels that fit in your hair. This year, tiaras are popular as well. You should schedule a time to chat with your hairstylist to discuss the styles that interest you and make sure that the tiara you want to purchase will work well with your overall look. You can also look for beaded and rhinestone headbands, or other pieces that snap into your hair. However, if you choose jewelry for your hair, you might want to instead go for smaller earrings. It is important to not choose too many large pieces that will overwhelm.

In the past, pearls have been an extremely popular prom accessory. This year, that has been replaced with sparkling jewels, but that does not mean that you have to forget the pearls altogether. Instead, look for jewelry that combines metal, jewels, and pearls for a comprehensive look that can match any dress. For example, you might look for chandelier earrings that have both dangling diamonds and pearls, or you might choose a gold necklace that twists the metal around the pearls. If you love pearls, you do not have to give them up completely in attempts to adhere to recent trends. Wear what will make you happy and fit your style.

The most important thing to remember when shopping for prom jewelry is to find pieces that you truly love. If you enjoy the jewelry you purchase, you can wear them long after prom. Look for classic pieces that will fit well into your budget and style and they will look great on you, no matter what the prom fashion "trends" are this year.
