Extreme fatigue can sometimes be called chronic fatigue due to its persistence. It's not the kind of condition that can easily be remedied by getting a good night's sleep or by taking a break from work, and is actually a constant reminder that there is something wrong with your body.

If you were to diagnose yourself, you might not think that there is anything wrong with your health. However, the causes of extreme fatigue are not as obvious as those of regular fatigue. Below are some of the causes you might not be aware of.

1) Obesity

Obesity is one of the causes of extreme fatigue. Unfortunately, not a lot of people can tell whether they are obese or not in the first place. What's even worse is that some parents raise their children to grow up obese.

To check whether you are obese or not, calculate your BMI (body mass index). Go to nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ to check your BMI and determine if your body fat measure is over the limit.

Now, onto obesity itself... Being obese makes it hard for people to move around. To put it frankly, being too heavy takes a person more effort to get from one place to another. Because of this, the body regularly experiences stress, which eventually causes extreme fatigue in the long run.

If you find yourself dealing with an obesity problem, start changing your lifestyle for the better one step at a time. Eat more fruits and vegetables as they have more fiber rather than those foods that are full of starch.

2) Depression

Is depression one of the causes of extreme fatigue? To answer that question, let's see what science has to say.

Experts have always suspected a connection between depression and extreme fatigue. Not having enough energy to complete tasks can easily lure any sane person into depression.

However, studies are beginning to reveal that the situation could also go both ways. Those who are depressed are more likely to experience severe tiredness compared to a regular person.

Depression is a psychological condition. So get yourself out of your slump with the help of your family and friends. If you're stuck in deep depression, perhaps it's time for you to seek help from a doctor.

3) Hormonal Changes

Hormonal changes are also noted to be one of the main causes of extreme fatigue. Hormones are chemicals released by your cells that affect various aspects of the body.

Metabolism and stress are just some of the territories hormones deal with. When there is an imbalance of hormones, your body goes slightly haywire and results in extreme tiredness. At this point, it is better to schedule a check-up with your doctor.

The causes of extreme fatigue usually pose more underlying problems than fatigue itself. By taking control of the situation early on, you might be able to prevent other more serious conditions in the long run.
