If you are new to the world of MLM, learning to prospect a new client may seem like an incredibly daunting task. It may seem as though you've already spent an inordinate amount of energy just to get a prospect, and you may fear the worst if you make a mistake and lose out after all of your hard work. It can be all too easy to crack under the pressure of the situation. Fortunately, there are several things you can do that can help you effectively prospect an MLM lead.
It's important to begin by getting ready for your prospecting conversation so that you have it completely mapped out beforehand. You want to make sure that the person feels as comfortable with you as possible, otherwise they will not be likely to trust you. Trust is essential if you want to convert the prospect. In order to put the person at ease, you must be calm and confident yourself. While you should definitely prepare your talking points, remember that you are speaking with an actual person, and interact as such - with a friendly and genuine attitude.
Next, create a draft outline of what you will say to the person. A great way to begin is to find a mentor that can guide you and ask him or her some of the most common questions and objections that come up when people are being prospected. Also ask about responses that you can give that are likely to put the person at ease. Your responses should be genuine, since you'll want to make clear right from the beginning that the opportunity you are promoting is legitimate. To make things more tangible, keep your products front and center. Many people are wary about falling into pyramid schemes, so keeping the focus on a product will help show that it's all about selling a true product.
Another technique that you can use to help MLM prospects feel more comfortable is to mention well known MLM businesses and compare them to the opportunity that you are presenting. If you place your own opportunity on a level playing field with well known and respected MLM businesses, you will begin to earn the trust of your prospects. They are less likely to balk at the idea of a business relationship with you if you are able to demonstrate that your opportunity is similar to others that they know to be legitimate.
Finally, make sure you are friendly and casual. Be professional, but be yourself and be genuine. Talk about your own experiences honestly; avoid rehashing the success of others on your team that the prospect does not yet know. They don't know your team members; they know you and are looking to you for your experience. Keep audio and visual materials handy, keep it real, be professional, and be yourself and you'll find that you make a great impression on any prospect.
