Amongst the family of many useful medicinal herbs, Wheatgrass works as a wonder herb. It is a miraculous healing plant. Many researchers have propounded wheatgrass as a complete health food.

Wheatgrass provides the body with vital nourishment and energy for its proper functioning. It consists the principal constituent chlorophyll which is useful as a natural body cleanser, rebuilder and neutralizer of toxins. This chlorophyll molecule also bears a close resemblance to hemoglobin, the red pigment of human blood and it forms one of the essential blood building elements for all human beings.

Chlorophyll also improves the functioning of the heart, affects the uterus, intestines, the vascular system and the lungs. It has also been proved to be a brain tonic and memory enhancer. It is useful in treating almost all cases of ear, nose and throat problems. The juice of wheatgrass contains nearly 65% of chlorophyll. It is a rich source of minerals like magnesium, iron, calcium, phosphorous and Vitamins like A, B, C, and D. It thus proves to be helpful in maintaining good health.

There are various uses of wheatgrass in many diseases and ailments. They are:
Skin Diseases: Wheatgrass contains chlorophyll which controls the growth and development of harmful bacteria. Wheatgrass therapy can thus be efficiently used for ulcerated wounds and skin diseases. It promotes normal cell activity and growth by retarding bacterial action. Drinking wheatgrass juice regularly controls the growth of bacteria and when applied externally, on the affected area the poultice of wheatgrass works as an essential sterilizer.

Tooth Disorders: Persons suffering from sore throat and pyorrhea can use wheatgrass juice as an excellent mouth wash.
It also prevents tooth ache and cavities. It is also beneficial to chew wheatgrass.

Circulatory Disorders: Wheatgrass enhances heart and lung functions due to its chlorophyll content. Activity of capillary increases and toxemia is reduced. With the increase of iron and hemoglobin in the blood the natural process of oxygenation improves. Thus wheatgrass juice arrests various circulatory disorders.

Digestive disorders: Wheatgrass juice when administered as an enema helps in detoxifying the walls of the colon. This enema is also very useful in chronic constipation, ulcerative colitis and bleeding piles.

Regular drinking of wheatgrass is also useful in treating various other diseases. These include kidney stones, weak eyesight, arthritis, premature graying and falling of hair, general weakness and debility, asthma, constipation and insomnia.

For treating various diseases the patient should follow an exclusive diet of wheatgrass. Under this the patient should depend only upon wheatgrass food for 6 days without eating anything. This fast provides the body with all the essential nutrients and serves the purpose of best health food. It also cleanses and nourishes the digestive system without the danger of observing fast.

During this time period, the patient may experience general weakness and debility for 2 days or more. But there is no need to worry and by drinking sesame milk, which is high in proteins and calcium the patient can overcome this crisis. Obese persons who observe this fast are also eligible to loose weight and this also gives a proper rest to stomach and body.

Wheatgrass can be grown at any place. But care should be taken to see that direct rays of the sun do not reach during afternoon because they have the tendency to reduce the strength and power of grass and make it dull and dry.

For growing wheatgrass a good quality of wheat should be soaked for about 7 to 9 hours. This water should then be removed and those grains allowed to sprout for about 16 hours. Wooden trays or earthen pots can be used for growing wheatgrass. They should be filled with good quality compost manure and kept away from direct sunlight. Each day water should be sprinkled over them twice a day till the grass grows about 6 to 8 inches high.

Once there is a good growth of wheatgrass they can be cut with a scissor. Thereafter they should be cleansed and washed and ground. After doing this, fresh juice can be extracted through a fine piece of cloth and taken immediately as the more you delay the more its efficacy is reduced and its medical value is completely lost after two and a half hours.

Thus we can conclude that wheatgrass is a wonder plant which has versatile number of uses. It is also beneficial in treating various afflictions of the digestive system, circulatory system, and disorders of various other organs such as nose, throat etc. Hence we can call it as a wonderful healing plant.
