Color Therapy or Chromotherapy is a method of treating diseases by color. It is used as an adjuvant therapy along with other natural ways of maintaining and preserving health such as exercise, correct diet, proper rest and relaxation, Yoga and so on. Niels Finsen of Denmark is known to be the pioneer of modern Color Therapy.
The practitioners of Chromotherapy believe that the cause of any disease can be traced to the lack of particular color in the human system. Color Therapy is a technique of restoring imbalance by means of applying colored light to the body. This method was very popular even in the ancient times. In ancient India, Egypt and China color halls were used for healing and even Pythagoras applied colored light therapeutically. The actions and effects of various colors on the body and their healing qualities are as follows:

There are two methods of treating diseases by color. They are:
1. Application of Light through Different Colored Glasses: In this method sheets of glass of 30cms*36cms of the required colors are needed. They are placed at a convenient location in such a way that the sun's rays pass through them and fall on the patient's body. The usual duration of this treatment is thirty minutes. Even for topical application on the body, the same procedure is used.
2. External or Internal Use of Color Charged Water: This method requires colored bottles. These bottles are cleaned up and filled up to three-fourths levels with fresh well water, rain water or distilled water. The bottle should be corked and then placed in bright sunlight for three to four hours. After this the color charged water can be used both internally and for external applications.
Thus we can say that the healing power of colors have proven to be very useful in treating various diseases and ailments.
