The football season was upon them and the ladies were prepared to support their local high school boys in any way that they could. They knew from previous years that they would need a dry skin remedy to take care of their hands while they were out there supporting the boys with cheers and taunts for the other team. These mothers, sisters and aunts were the acknowledged backbone of the team and they would pass out that dry skin remedy to all of the people around them because they knew how annoying chapped skin could be. Even the local Stanley Home Products guy would ask for some when he dropped by to take in a game.

The team was supposed to be really good that year, but that is what the coach would tell people every year. He wanted to get them out to Stanley Home Products stadium, donated by a local businessman who had earned his fortune with the sale of Stanley Home Products, so that they would cheer the team to victory. Coach realized as he massaged in some dry skin remedy that the strength of his team was the support that they received. He did think that what he taught them helped, but if they were confident and backed up by the crowd they could do great things.

The first two home games went smoothly and as to plan. They were large victories and they played and won three away games in the same time period. The boys were glad to be playing at Stanley Home Products stadium, which everybody called "The Stan," again. They would have all of the families with them and they could perform their best when they had the support of the crowd. There were to be three straight home games and the coach knew, if they won them all, they were a shoe in for the state tourney.

The first two games were against opponents that the boys considered inferior and they rolled over them like they were playing Pop Warner teams. The last home game of the stretch was against a feared state power. They had won four out of the last nine state football titles and they always made the playoffs. It was between these two teams this year. The moms brought plenty of dry skin remedy along with helping to provide concessions because they knew this was going to be a long one.

After the first quarter it was all but decided. The other team had scored two touchdowns and a field goal, and by the half they had a 24 point lead. The coach must have made a rousing speech in the locker room at half because his boys stormed back and made up all but three point of the deficit in the first ten minutes of the second half. At the start of the fourth quarter they scored the winning touchdown when a star defender ran the ball back after an interception. The other team never recovered. They went on to lose by 18 points to the next state champion.
