Medically speaking, it is not possible to restore our misshapen eyeball due to myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia or other causes. No amount of exercises can bring about a change in shape, size or muscle elasticity to have any significant improvement. However, there are some positive factors on restoring deteriorated eyesight. According to one doctor, he claims that they are two types of Myopia. The first type is caused by pressure of the eye growing too fast, making the eyeball elongated and literally grows out of focus Contact lenses are prescribed to halt further worsening of condition. And the second type which is reversible, is caused by spasm of the ciliary muscles. The eye is believed to undergo spasms, when a person looks up and fails to focus on a distant object after being subjected to near-vision usage, like reading a book. He advocates proper reading habit like holding reading material a bit further from the eyes.Positive lenses are prescribed to optimize the vision and brings about improvement. Looking at far away object will help in the cause.
Taking heart, that some type of myopia is reversible, the following exercises, if put to practice diligently, should bring about significant improvement. The general idea of reversing effects of Myopia, is to eradicate stress and strain on the eyes and to promote good blood circulation in the eye region.
Blinking of the eye, cleanses and lubricates, to keep the eye moist and free of irritants. A strained Myopic eye tends to stare and blink less, causing our eyes to feel irritated and uncomfortable. Take off your glasses, look at any object about 6-8 feet away. Try to explore the outline of the blur image in focus, consciously making your eyes blink a few times at a few seconds timing. You should relax your eyes and blink as naturally as possible.Do this for 5-10 minutes, twice a day. A few minutes into this exercise, you may notice that the outline becomes a bit clearer.
Use Dr.Bate's method of 'palming' to relax the eyes.Form your palms into cups and place them over your eyes, without putting pressure on the eye-balls, making sure no strains (no pun intended) of light are visible.Close your eyes and relax and you will 'notice' the condition is pitch black. If you 'see' flashes of brightness, don't worry, it is quite normal and as Dr.Bate puts it, it's the strain that is the cause. Do this for 20-30 minutes at a time or longer if you feel comfortable. ( please do not doze off! )
For eye movements exercise, keep your head looking straight ahead. First, you look upwards as far as your gaze will take you (without straining ) then to your left, then to the bottom, then to your right and finally upwards again to complete a full circle. Reverse the direction to do another full circle.Repeat for each direction ( full circle in a smooth flowing movement of the eyes ) 5-10 times each. Remember, you should discontinue at once, anytime you feel discomfort or pain and to immediately seek medical attention if necessary.
Make a habit to visit a park and relax, because this is the best exercise of all. Sit yourself ( preferably with a companion, for safety reason and also when you start your exercise, you don't want to give wrong impressions! ) comfortably on a park bench, and start looking at green stuffs like trees, near and far. Always shifting your gaze, when you are able to focus quite clearly. albeit briefly , on a branch, bird or flowers. Even if you can't see too clearly, you will still benefit from your eye movements. The idea here is to train your focus, first on near objects and then far away objects. ( gaze as far as you could at any object ) Alternating focus, and remembering not to strain to look or it will be self defeating. You should stop the minute you feel tired. And while you are at it, take advantage of the setting sun, when it still warms. Close your eyes and face towards the sun, move your head sideways slowly, left and then right and back again. (Do NOT look directly into the sun ! It will cause irreparable damage to your eyes.) Sunlight is a good source of vitamin D, the objective here is to warm your eyes with sunlight. Early morning sun works fine, too.
Blood circulation in the eye region must be good, in order to maintain healthy eyes condition.Commercially, you can find stimulating herbs specifically and traditionally used for eye health upkeep. The most widely accepted is Bilberry ( Vaccinium Myrtillus ).It was reportedly used by British war pilots to improve night vision for night raids, with notable results. According to a U.S. report, no supporting evidence was found for this, but positive results posted on it's ability to curb and reverse eye macular degeneration.Vitamins C, E, beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A),and carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin ) are helpful in protecting eye against free radical damage.A word of caution to smokers and ex-smokers, though. Recent studies have concluded that there is a link of lung cancers to smokers and ex-smokers alike, who takes beta carotene supplements. You can learn more about vision without glasses program at my blog site.
To your success.
