For the past hundreds of years, several cultures throughout the world have been using the special tribal designs for tattoos. These have been used as a way to decorate one's own body and for communal identification. But in the more recent years, the use of these tribal tattoo designs have multiplied and grown in order to accommodate the demand of people that want to get the tattoo with this design.

Historically speaking, the design has been used by so many cultures throughout the world for everything. They can be used to signify the rite of passage and as a way to define the social status of someone. As a matter of fact, these designs have a different variety of importance along with the culture which they come from. Some of these tribal art can be traced back to before 2000 BC. Even up to this date, these designs are still being used for social and cultural purposes. Almost every continent has had their contribution to some type of this tribal art to today's modern design.

However, there are several tattoo artists which get the elements of their tribal art design from the ancient Egyptians, West African tribal elders, the North American Indians, and a whole lot more. Even if today's tribal tattoos are requested based on what they look like instead of their social affiliation, we cannot deny or neglect the importance of this art.

Among men and women, tribal tattoos are generally being requested. Because of this, they have become among the most in demand tattoo designs. Many men have these tattoo image done as an armband or even as a large image on their shoulder. Women, on the other hand, ask this tattoo design to be done on their lower backs or as an ankle band.

Even though the modern tribal tattoos today do not have one certain importance to a clan or tribe, the amalgamations which have emerged from the several influences come from the person who wears the tattoo or the one creating it. For this, many find that their tribal tattoo is their own unique individuality statement which nobody can take away from them.

As the design of this tattoo is still in demand, there will be more and more variations of this design. This design will be used as a way to pay tribute to one person's family roots, ancestors, or even just because these tribal designs mean something important for them.
