The most popular online Facebook game ever, Farmville Facebook hit like a hurricane and didn't go back. Begun just in June 2009, Zynga's Farmville has 63.7 million active users as of November 2009 all around the world. Zynga, a free online gaming company, specializes it doing what seemed impossible only a few short years ago: making lots of money with free games. Farmville is now a multi-million dollar enterprise.

It all happened so fast that it's hard to figure out just why Farmville became so popular. One thing is for sure: without Facebook, Farmville couldn't have gotten so big. Facebook, the joke is, made the Internet "uncool." That is to say, with the rise of Facebook, suddenly young people weren't the only people spending hours of their lives on the computer. Facebook is a platform that everyone can enjoy, of all ages and from all walks of life, from teenagers to grandparents.

Zynga took advantage of that uniquely broad market and put together a friendly, addictive, simple gaming application where you take care of a virtual farm. It utilizes the very things that made Facebook popular: community development, the sense that things are always happening, and massively increased word-of-mouth advertising. Scrolling through the live feed and seeing friends' Farmville facebook events has done more than anything to lure new players in.

In addition to the billions of virtual crops Farmville has generated, a whole economy of Farmville facebook guides, hints and tips has "cropped up" to take advantage of the hype. As people new to gaming and the Internet comprise a significant portion of Farmville Facebook players, easy-to-read e-books are making lots of (real) money and becoming very popular purchases for occasions such as birthdays and even the upcoming holiday season. One such e-book, has seen much success, and many others are also catching on.
