At the heart of effective self-management lie specific and well defined life goals. Without these you will never really know how best to invest your time or weather that investment is proving worthwhile.
Goals or Dreams - How many people do you know who are going to do something - someday - when and if?
Are these people dreaming or do they have a goal?
They can only ever be dreams because nothing is definite, nothing is defined, nothing is planned and nothing is written down.
If you limit yourself with self-doubt, and self-limiting assumptions, you will never be able to break past what you deem impossible. If you reach too far out into the sky without working towards your goal, you will find yourself clinging on to the impossible dream.
Those who just dream towards a goal without working hard end up disappointed and disillusioned.
Research shows that:
30% of people are inactive - That is they have no goals and act only when told what, where and how to do it by another person.
50% of people are reactive - That is they respond to events instead of trying to initiate change to control their destiny. They spend their lives labouring to achieve the goals of others.
10% of people are dreamers - they dream big dreams and have great aspirations. Unfortunately, their dreams remain just that - dreams. And their aspirations easily collect dust in their attic Broken dreams, and tattered aspirations
This leaves just 10% who are proactive - Instead of waiting to be told what to do, or responding to events dictated by others, or dreaming their lives away, they go out into the world and make things happen.
This is why more people aren't living the life of their dreams? Why everyone doesn't have the perfect career, home, body and relationship?
The reason is that there is more to goal setting and goal achievement. Goal setting is not just a wishful thinking. You can't just sit down for 3 minutes and write down what you want to achieve in your life, and hope that everything will come true the next day after you wake up.
Successful people know that others don't...
...is that it you meet your goals by tackling them realistically, step by step, and with confidence. To take stock of your time and to use it in a more effective way
