During the 60's, 59 percent of the students' population are men. Now, the majority of college attendees are women at 57 percent. This means that this number is increasing and the probability looking for money to sustain education is getting harder.

Competitions on scholarships and grants become a norm. With the expanding population, especially women who wanted to enroll for college, the odds of earning this financial support are little. Single parents add up to the demand of more scholarships and grants to help them get back to school. This calls for an idea of where to find these scholarships so that anybody could proceed and get the degree they always wanted.

The good thing is that the government is expanding the number of slots for single mothers to continue their schooling. Here are a number of scholarships for women, especially for single mothers who want to continue their college or wanted to enter the academe.

Government Financial Support

Your first step should be on a government own website such as the GovBenefits.gov, which will take you to several scholarship and financial aid programs by the government. For low income families, the site is designed to support you on paying things like utilities, health insurance, housing, education and others.

FAFSA is another government scholarship program that will help support everyone not just women and single mothers. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is only offered to thus low income families and demonstrates a higher need of this financial aid.

State scholarships are free for deserving applicants and are offered to almost every state in the country. There is always the issue of paying back the scholarship in terms of service if earn the degree.

Just for Women's Scholarships

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) provides support for women to meet their goal of a higher learning. This institution helps women through a number of grants offered to promote advancement for women in their careers. They encourage women to take scholarship on areas where low female participation is visible such as engineering, IT, and Architecture.

The Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund is another grant offered to women who are enrolled on an ACICS certified academy. The grantee should be allowed to take a vocational, associate degree or bachelor degree and is only limited to women age from 35 years old, which clearly exhibits a great need of financial help.
