How to use the Autofilter in Excel 2000

  • Select cell C2 click on Filter from the Data drop-down menu and from its sub-menu click on AutoFilter.
  • Or Alt + D for the data drop down menu
  • F for filter sub-menu
  • F for Auto-filter option
  • A drop-down arrow will appear in cell C3. Click on it and then click on custom.
  • Or use arrow keys to select cell C3 then Alt + down arrow key to open
  • Down arrow key to custom
  • Enter
  • Click on the top left combo box and from the drop down list you would select the one you wanted - in this case click on "Is greater than"
  • Or tab to the combo box and down arrow key to open
  • Arrow key down to "Is greater than" and enter
  • It will then appear in the box.
  • Click in the rectangle on the top of the right side and from the list of numbers select 30.
  • Click ok.
  • Or tab to the next combo box
  • Use the arrow keys to select 30 and then enter
  • Tab to the OK button and enter

What we did here was to ask Excel to show only lines that are greater than 30.

  • To get the other lines back select the Data menu
  • Select filter
  • Select AutoFilter

If you are filtering a list of numbers, you can quickly view the largest values in the list

  • Select the Top 10 item in the AutoFilter list.
  • To resume viewing everything in the column, select all.

Try this to see if you have the hang of it

  • Type in E3 100.00
  • E4 200.00
  • E5 700.00
  • E6 250.00
  • E7 750.00
  • E8 200.00
  • D9 Total E9 2200.00
  • D10 VAT due
  • To Find the Vat
  • In cell E10 Type =
  • Click on E9 or arrow key to E9 and tap spacebar
  • Type * then 17.5%
  • Press 'Enter key' on keyboard - VAT should be 385

To calculate one figure as a percentage of another

  • In cell F7 type =E7/E9
  • Click on the tick for fraction then click on the percentage style icon.
  • Or press F10 - to select menu toolbar
  • Ctrl + Tab to format toolbar
  • Arrow key to % icon and then press enter Answer should be 34%

This was done by, dividing E7 (750.00) by E9 (total) then formatting the result by using the percentage style icon.

You can use the decrease or increase decimal icons, as you require.
