5 Successful Strategies for Senior Golfers

If you are a senior golfer, you may want to be able to play with friends who are younger than yourself and to do that you'll need to maintain your handicap. Here are some strategies to help you do that.

The driver. Choose a driver with the right amount of flexibility which will provide the desired amount of distance and loft. As one ages, brute force is no longer an option, so the right equipment is paramount.

Keep fit. As we age, we invariably develop twinges in the back and shoulders and unfortunately, we can't stop time doing its worst but we can hold it off for a while.   Be sure to do warm up exercises before going on the golf course; cold, stiff muscles are easily damaged by sudden movements. Have regular massages and keep yourself as fit as possible for maximum flexibility. In this way, you will be able to maintain the stance and swing you always had.

Know the golf course. There's no point in getting older if you don't learn a few tricks along the way. We've already said that brute force is probably no longer an option but native cunning can be. If you plan to play at an unfamiliar golf course, go and check it out in advance, chat to the members and pick up some tips.

The stance and swing. For any golfer, the stance and swing are important elements of the game but for the senior golfer they are doubly important, starting with the tee off. With age, muscle strength declines and standing the way you did when you were thirty probably won't cut it. If you're finding that your drives pull one way or another consistently, then you may need to adjust the way you present yourself to the ball. You may need to continue this adjustment as time goes on.

Practice. If you feel that your game is falling away somewhat, then why not get some practice in at the driving range and putting green. Some successes there will boost your confidence and your friends need never know. For the senior golfer, tactical play is the best option; don't try to play the youngsters at their own game.
