Contextual advertising is the perfect way to earn money off your website without a lot of hassle. Contextual ads are matched to your website through a contextual advertising network, which determines the matches based on the keywords you use on your website. One important thing to keep in mind when you’re planning a website that will earn money through contextual ads is that your keywords are everything. Not all keywords are worth the same amount of money per click, so you want to choose the ones that have the highest value. Keywords are the phrases people type into a search engine to find your website. The key is to find keywords that define your website and lend themselves to the majority of people also clicking on the contextual ads.

Before you delve into the world of contextual advertising, there are a number of terms you should understand. The first is pay per click, also known as PPC. Pay per click ads are another way to refer to the contextual ads that appear on many websites because the publisher gets paid whenever someone clicks on an ad on his page. Another important term is cost per click, or CPC. The cost per click is the amount each advertiser pays to each publisher per click on that publisher’s website.

Targeting specific keywords will help you draw in more traffic, but targeting the wrong keywords can keep your pay per click revenue from rising. For example, if your keywords do bring you a lot of traffic but they don’t draw in the kind of traffic that will click on your ads, then you won’t make a lot of money through contextual advertising.

You will probably have to experiment with keywords a bit before you find the ones that work best with your website. You can do this by running tests on your keywords. Running tests is easy. It involves making two or three versions of your website and utilizing different keywords on each one. Whichever version gets the most traffic and the most clicks will be your best one. There are also many online keyword tools that will show you not only what keywords people are using to search on topics in your niche, but also how much advertisers are willing to pay for those keywords.
