There are many people across the globe that have the medical condition of high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. This is a serious medical condition that needs attention to keep from it getting out of control. Many times, there are factors that contribute to this condition that can not be controlled, such as age and gender, but there are many things that someone can do to lower and control blood pressure. This article is not meant to replace what your doctor tells you, it is just a discussion on the top ways to lower blood pressure without medications.

High blood pressure is often caused by bad lifestyle habits that can be changed with a little education and encouragement. Obesity, salt intake and lack of exercise are just a few of the contributors of high blood pressure, so when those factors are changed, blood pressure seems to level out and become a healthy number.

The first thing you need to do is talk to your doctor about the factors in your lifestyle that you really should change. Only your doctor can give the advice that compliments your lifestyle.

Another thing you should consider is your weight. If you are overweight, especially if you are considered obese, you should lose the extra pounds. Studies have shown that if you lose weight, your blood pressure will level off and you will start to feel better. When losing weight, make sure you do it in a healthy way. One way to do this is by joining a health club or clinic. These clinics have registered nutritionists and trainers that can teach and guide you to losing weight in a healthy manner.

Anther very important thing you can do to bring your blood pressure down is to limit your salt intake. Sodium is known to raise blood pressure, even in those that don't have high blood pressure problems. Salt is hidden in many foods, especially processed and canned foods. Be very aware of how much salt is in the foods you eat. Read labels and use a salt substitute to help curb your intake of sodium.

Another factor of high blood pressure that can be controlled is alcohol use. Alcohol has a tendency to raise blood pressure so limiting or avoiding alcohol can make a big difference in blood pressure.

One of the most effective ways to lower blood pressure is by getting regular exercise. Most people that have high blood pressure are overweight to begin with; therefore physical activity is the most important thing they can do for themselves. Before starting any exercise program, you need to talk to your doctor. It is advised to start slow so that you don't over do it and get discouraged before you even get started. Walking is one of the most effective ways to get your heart to a healthy rate and it is low impact. Make sure you have the correct shoes to keep your feet and legs from hurting later, which will keep you from doing it on a regular basis.

Pay attention. When having you have high blood pressure you are not allowed to take any impotence and erectile dysfunction medication, such as viagra and cialis, as they known to increase blood pressure.

Always consult with your physician.
