However, they also have something really good to offer mankind and that is to prevent global warming from killing the planet we live in.

The keen researchers and scientists on board the Royal Navy’s HMS Endurance have instituted millions of minute particles of iron released from the melting icebergs off the coast of Antarctica. These iron particles are at large in the southern Ocean and aid to create gigantic algal blooms that absorb carbon emissions here on earth. The huge algae formation goes deep down the arctic depths or the Ocean then efficiently absorbing carbon dioxide from the earth’s atmosphere for numerous decades.

Some researchers believe that our home planet seem to want to heal itself due to mankind’s destruction thus the algal blooms. As a matter of fact, scientists have already known that algal blooms created synthetically could be used to soak up greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. However, the experiment has been barred by some due to the fear that it may cause unexpected side effects especially in brittle ecosystems. But UK scientists and researchers wouldn’t want to give up just yet. The factual evidence they found off the coast of Antarctica proved that the nature’s process has been occurring for millions of years now. Because of this scientific and emancipating breakthrough, the United Nations has given the team an agreeable go for a ground-breaking experiment.

The team of researchers and scientists will try to find a way to artificially create a gargantuan algae bloom. According to science, they will need tons of iron sulphate for them to be able to create a huge algal bloom. After that, they will release the green algae into the sea off the coast of the British island, copying exactly the one they first found in Antarctica. Rumor has it that the algae patch will be big enough to be seen from the outer space.

The scientists are hoping for the success of this revolutionary experiment. If so, the system will then be expanded across the wide swaddles of the Great Southern Ocean. It has been reckoned that if the 20 million square mile area was treated, it could effectively lessen the production of carbon dioxide by three and a half gigatons which is the same as one eighth of all worldwide yearly diffusion of CO2 from fossil fuels and other agents.
