When deciding on the type of pond fountain, you can choose from a wide range of options. Pond fountains, also called garden fountains come in different shapes, sizes and materials. There are fountains that resemble rock waterfalls. Rocks are lined up as the water cascades on them. Fountains in which the water flows from bowl to bowl or course to course are a very common sight in home gardens. Solar powered fountains are the most suitable for home use. Especially for those which are smaller in size. It is very efficient since there is no need to plug it in. With a lot of choices, you should be keen in picking the pond fountain for you.

The materials used in pond fountains can sometimes be tricky. More commonly, fountains are made from fiberglass, stone and ceramic. But there are also a few made from stainless steel and copper. It is better to compare the two most frequently used materials- fiberglass and cast stone. This is for those who are still undecided to which one they will go for.

One of the advantages of pond fountains made from fiberglass is its lightweight. It may come in many various styles. It is commonly used because it can be easily constructed to come in different form. Because of its lightness, it can be made to look like real stone fountains cascading in many layers. In other words, fiberglass is used as a substitute for granites that are quite heavy.

Another good thing about fiberglass fountains is that it’s much easier to move, carry and clean. Some special features can also be added to lessen the burden of arranging tall fountain cascades. But this can only be done to fiberglass pond fountains because it is not heavy. Another benefit for its being lightweight is that the shipping cost is much cheaper, thus making it available for everyone who is wanting to put up an accent to their ponds.

If there are advantages, of course there could be at least one disadvantage. And that is it easily fades. Fiberglass materials could chip over time most especially if the fountain is outdoors, under the sun. Another disadvantage is that most lightweight pond fountains are mass produced abroad. In other words, they are boxed and ready to be shipped to anywhere in the world thus making its value much lower. However, this can be a disadvantage for a few garden owners who want to keep uniqueness out of their landscape. But to most people who are into practicality, this is an advantage.

Now for the stone cast materials used for pond fountains. One advantage that it can give is the undeniable beauty it has. Although fiberglass looks good, stone pond fountains look so much better because of its natural attributes. Another advantage is that it is durable. Because it is natural stone, it can last for a very long time even without maintenance. Many people choose stone made fountains for the reason that the color can be maintained for a long time unlike other materials like fiberglass.

The disadvantage, which is very obvious, is its weight. Many garden owners choose fiberglass over stone made fountains because it is mush easier to maintain. And the heavy weight it has makes it more expensive. The shipping cost can be very costly if you choose to purchase stone-made pond fountains online.

Nevertheless, whatever material you choose for your pond fountain, the aesthetic pleasure and physical relaxation it gives will still remain.
