For most teachers, learning how to increase your grading speed is something that is learned over time. It is certainly not easy to sit down with a whole stack of papers and look forward to putting the proper marks on all of them. The balance of educators develop a style through the years, allowing them to get through this process more quickly. However, there are several simple systems that can be used in order to free up more time.

Teacher grading pencils or pens should be used exclusively for this purpose. This will help to ensure that it is always available, so time isn't lost hunting for something to write with. Put it in a special place devoted only for student papers. It should also be a color that pupils wouldn't ordinarily use, so the marks will stand out, making them easier to spot. However, the choices really are limited, because a lime green or fuschia shade certainly would not look professional.

One great idea is to separate the homework into piles, each having a distinction. For example put all of the English essays into one group, the subtraction into another and put poetry aside as well. In this way, a mindset can be first established for a certain subject. Once the guidelines are fixed in your head, it will be easier to spot mistakes and correct them. Since most kids make the same mistake, getting into a routine can certainly save some valuable time in this process.

Another way to increase your grading speed is to set aside a certain amount of time. This will help to focus on the task at hand. While it might not get the entire job finished at one sitting, you can certainly come back later. Taking a break helps to recharge the batteries and allow time for the mind to clear. It is more important to get one subject finished with a quality effort, than to simply go through the entire stack half-heartedly.

The importance of teacher grading pencils is to show kids that there is room for improvement. They should be able to clearly see and understand the errors that were made on their paper. Since mistakes are a common part of any learning process, it is paramount to understand what is need to correct them. A teacher's main job is to prepare pupils for their next step, whatever that might be.
