Have you been thinking about going after a sales job but been wondering which are the top sales jobs; the jobs with the biggest opportunities and the highest pay?  Well there are lots of industries with well paid sales jobs; medical, pharmaceutical, dental, financial, home improvements, retailing, the list is endless.

The industries where you'll find these top sales jobs may differ but you'll find that, apart from expert knowledge in a particular field, the qualities you need to succeed are very similar.

Firstly, to succeed in top sales jobs, you will need to be a very determined and single minded person.  You must be the type of person who persists and doesn't give up when the going gets tough.

Secondly, you need to be able to build up a rapport with your potential customers.  If you are a likeable sort of person and you can develop relationships with the people you meet, then they will learn to trust you and are far more likely to buy your product.

Thirdly, when you have one of the top sales jobs, you don't only need a friendly personality but a smart appearance.  You might be the nicest person in the world but if you turn up for your appointments wearing a scruffy pair of jeans and a t-shirt, then your customers won't be impressed.  It's well worth investing in a couple of decent suits and ties and some smart shirts or blouses and shoes to go with them.  Make sure that the shirts are well ironed and that the shoes are polished.  As well as what you wear, personal grooming and hygiene is equally important; a neat hair cut and a good shave or beard trim is essential for you men and for the ladies, again the hair and also makeup.  Don't overdo the makeup though; you don't want to look like you're going to a nightclub!

Okay, you've decided which of the top sales jobs you want to go after and you've acquired a suitable wardrobe so now you need to find a company to work for.  The obvious place to start is your local paper, unless you want to relocate or you could try the trade papers for your chosen industry.  Now you need to make sure your resumé is up to date and start writing letters, filling in application forms and going for interviews.  Sooner or later, you're sure to land one of the top sales jobs.

However, if that all sounds too difficult; the interviews and the smart suits, the travelling and the targets to meet so that you get that all-important bonus, there is an alternative.  How about internet sales?  You get to be your own boss and to set your own hours.  You can work in your pyjamas if you want and you don't have to polish your shoes.  You still need to be determined and build relationships with potential customers, but doesn't it sound much easier?
