With CMS, there's a lot you can do than with just ordinary blogging software or site you have customed made by some developers. A WCMS is composed of dynamic collection of materials for the Web like HTML documents, videos, images, texts, flash animations and other types of media. CMS lets you control documents, audit, edit and timeline management.

Typically it has the following:

Automated Templates
Helps create standard output templates (in HTML and XML) that can be applied automatically to new and existing content, that will allow users to change the appearance of all contents from one central place.

Content are easily modified
Contents are modified easily like editing a document with a word processor, CMS softwares includes WYSIWYG editing tools, this way non-technical individuals can easily and quickly edit or create new contents for the site.

Feature sets that are scalable
Most WCMS software includes plug-ins or modules that can be quickly and easily installed to extend an existing site's functionality. Every user could really customized the WCMS itself, what ever functionality that you would need are most likely available.

Standards upgrades for the Web
Developers are always searching and adding new ways or functionalities on the CMS basing on the needs of every individuals.

Managing Workflow
Workflow is the process of creating cycles of sequential and parallel tasks that must be accomplished in the CMS. For example, a content creator can submit a story, but it is not published until the copy editor cleans it up and the editor-in-chief approves it.

Delegation
Most CMS software lets various user groups to have limited privileges over specific content on the website, spreading out the responsibility of content management.

Managing of Document
CMS software may give a means of managing the life cycle of a document from initial creation time, through revisions, publication, archive, and document destruction.

Virtualization of Content
CMS software may render a means of allowing each user to work within a virtual copy of the entire Web site, document set, and/or code base. This lets users to do changes to multiple interdependent resources to be viewed and/or executed in-context prior to submission.

WCMS software most of the time assists in distribution of contents by yielding RSS and Atom data feeds to other different systems. They could also e-mail other users when updates are ready if included in the workflow process.

Able to display content in several different languages like French, Spanish, German, Finnish, Dutch, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and several others.
