(International Conference on Internationalization of Higher Education with special reference to Management Education)
The Indian higher education system has witnessed a significant expansion in the recent years, especially in terms of the number of institutions and the student enrollment. According to the report on FICCI Higher Education Summit 2009, India has more than 400 universities and 20,000 colleges and out of these, about 63% are privately held, unaided institutions. Though these are positive trends, the Indian higher education system continues to show many shortcomings which create challenges in fulfilling future expectations, mainly arising due to globalization. In spite of having more higher education institutions than any other country in the world, very few Indian higher education institutions feature in the list of leading institutions in the world. At the same time, globalization has brought the world closer which has expanded the horizons of Indian students who are expecting a world class education from Indian higher education institutions.
In order to explore these dimensions, Symbiosis International (Deemed University) is organizing an International Conference on Internationalization of Higher Education with special reference to Management Education, at its world class campus, situated at Pune – 411 042, India on 14th & 15th October 2010.
The objectives of the conference are:
- To provide academicians, business leaders, students and researchers, a platform to present and discuss various aspects of Internationalization of Higher Education.
- To find out emerging trends in internationalization of higher education and to apply them to make Indian higher education world class.
- To examine the special challenges in internationalizing Management Education, which has a strong local/national dimension,- unlike the pure sciences or even social sciences like Economics, that remain constant across boundaries.
Conference Tracks will be as follows:
DAY 1 : Thursday, 14th October 2010
Track 1: Building world class universities in Asia
Track 2: India’s Policies on Internationalization of Education
DAY 2 : Friday, 15th October 2010
Track 3: Design and delivery of an international curriculum
Track 4: Development of faculty for educating global citizens
