Protecting Computer from Spyware and Malware

Many spyware and malware infections are increasing online today. Many companies therefore have found much antivirus software to avoid these infections. Nevertheless, many people have difficulties to exploit these software programs to avoid the spyware attacks.

Let us first see what the spyware and adware are. This is useful to understand how the anti virus software is used to avoid the attacks.

Adware: is a program that that is installed on the computer without the permission of the user and is aimed to change the browser and security settings. The target of the adware is to display advertising the user.

Spyware: is software that hides on the computer that monitors the computer activity and transmits it over the network. it can therefore transmits sensitive information across the network.

Generally spyware is not designed to damage the computer; it is designed to send advertisements to the user using the browser. The spyware software is designed to bypass the firewall or any anti virus software to keep penetrating the computer. Therefore, in most cases the antivirus software cannot discover the spyware.

The normal question is how spyware is come on the user computer. There are two ways that this can happen. First it can occur when the user download a program and installs it. The program downloaded can contain spyware software embedded into it. This spyware program automatically installed along with the main program. Second, when the user browse pages on the internet, an author page can contains a spyware program that is executed while the page downloads. The spyware program can be java applet, java script or any browser script language.

The important question is how to protect the computer from spyware and adware. There are three main approaches:

1. Use any Use any commercial anti virus software. The anti virus software is a program designed to detect and prevent attacks the happen on the computer. Many types exist for the anti virus software as many companies are producing it.

2. Use browsers except than Internet Explorer. This is because IE has many weaknesses. Attackers use these weaknesses as holes to make the attack. If the user likes to use IE, he can adjust the security settings carefully to protect his computer when he makes downloads or browsing. Also the user must make downloads from reputable sources.

3. The user must be careful when downloading files that depend on peer to peer sharing. Such files often have licenses that exist with the files on the server. The user that wishes to download it must read these licenses well before downloading. This is because that such file can have spyware programs embedded into it which is stated in the license. Many users ignore reading the license which lead to installing the spyware programs when downloading it.

Computer users msut periodically scan their computer to make sure that there is no spyware or any other types of malicious programs on their computer. Trying to do that can save big value of money and time for the user of the computer.
