The city of Geneva is strung along the shores of Europe's largest Alpine lake and Lake Geneva is one of the main attractions of the area.

You can take a boat cruise of the lake itself where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the views. More relaxation can be sought by a visit to the Bains des Paquis on the western shore of the lake. These traditional Swiss saunas and baths offer you a truly authentic experience and are hugely popular with visitors and tourists alike.

The area surrounding Lake Geneva is a great place to take a stroll and if you’re feeling peckish, the Promenades along the left and right banks are dotted with cafes and street markets where you can sample some traditional fares.

Another feature of the lake is the Jet d’eau, one of the world’s tallest water fountains which gushes around 140 metres into the air.

If you fancy discovering the Old Town then Place du Bourg-de-Four, the oldest public square in Geneva, is a good starting point. This centrally located square has always been a meeting point and is lined with centuries old houses which give you a view of what Geneva was like in times gone by. In the centre of the square there is an 18th century fountain that is usually decorated with flowers.

The Old Town is a labyrinth of winding cobblestone streets, brimming with cafes, boutiques and historical landmark.

If you visit the Old Town then a trip to Saint Peter’s Cathedral is essential. Located on Cour Saint-Pierre the Cathedral towers over the Old Town and is Geneva’s oldest architectural treasure. The Cathedral was began in 1160 and took over 400 years to complete.

The north tower affords you panoramic views of the city while the basement houses an Archaeological Museum with artefacts dating back to 350 AD. The nearby Reformation Wall honours Geneva's heroes of the Swiss Protestant Reformation.

Other well known Old Town landmarks include the Town Hall, Maison Tavel Museum, Promenade de la Treille and the Parc des Bastions are all well worth a look.

Home of the International Red Cross and former home of the League of Nations, Geneva possesses a multicultural flair and French culture and language are still prominent aspects of Geneva today. The heart of the city is called La Rive Gauche, which includes the Old Town as well.

Flights to Geneva are available from hundreds of international destinations so you can book your Swiss trip away with ease. Aéroport International de Genève is the airport you would arrive at when travelling to Geneva and connections to major European cities and many others worldwide are frequent.

You can easily catch a bus into town from the airport, catch a cab or you could of course hire a car if you fancy taking to the roads.
