One can never be really sure what Google is up to however. We do not use nofollow because we fear losing “link juice”, it’s simply an attempt to give the author the best link that we can possibly give them.

This all sounds very logical, but there is a catch: for several months now, things have changed a bit: you are still passing link juice even if you use the rel=”nofollow” tag for your external links. googlebot does not follow the link, but it sees that a link is there and this makes you lose link juice the exact same way you would by offering dofollow links.
