Can I Get Your Opinion On Revenue Sharing?

Author: Dan Blackburn | Filed under: Article Content King News, Authors Interest

The Article Content King Revenue Sharing System is simple… When your articles are viewed on the site you earn advertising credits, these credits can be used to display your own ads on the site.

Rather than actually paying authors, we give them direct control of the ability to make money from the site (i.e. the ad space).

Credits are earned when an authors articles are viewed on the site, when the member moderates articles and when the member’s referrals’ articles are viewed on the site.

Members earn credits down 10 levels of “downline”. So all your author referrals and all their referrals and so on down 10 levels, all earn credits for the member who introduced the first author.

The system works to ensure that when you create value by moderating articles, submitting articles that people want to read or referring authors to the site, you get rewarded in the same way we do… You get “control” of more ad space.

However, despite many members reaching the threshold of 1000 credits (required to enter ads), hardly any authors have. They could be making adsense income from the site, but it seems that they chose not to… for what ever reason.

So we are considering changing this system, or rather “Tweaking” it…

Would it be better if, rather than giving you direct control of the ad space to display your own ads, we kept control of the actual adspace, then paid you every month based on the number of credits your account has accumulated in that month?

We take the actual ad space earnings in the month, divide it my the number of credits generated in the month and work out how much each member is owed. Credits will be earned in exactly the same way, but rather than getting control of the ad space, you’d get paid what it was worth directly.

This would give everyone, even those without an Adsense account the ability to profit from the site.

Now here is the “bad” news…

If we do this, your credit balance would be zeroed before we start. We could not pay for credits retrospectively. It costs nothing to give you control of the ad space, but to pay for credits past would mean spending money that has already been spent developing the site.

We could of course, give you the choice, control the ads, or get paid your share.

This is not coded yet, I have not even discussed it with the programmers. Before I do, I’d like to get your opinion because there is no point adding a feature that no-one wants.

Would you like to get paid directly for your articles on the site, rather than getting paid in ad space to control the means to make money from the site?

Please let me know?

Dan

  1. Hi Dan,

Since you just gave me a ton of credits AND my AdSense income has risen quite a bit from ACK having won the “King” contest, I would rather control my own ads. Obviously, giving people the choice would be fairest, but isn’t that more work for you/your programmers?

  2. I think it would be better to get paid directly instead of through the ad space. Like you mentioned, this would help those who do not have an adsense account. Even though it’s pretty easy for anyone to get one.

It would probably be better to put both in place and allow the individual to decide which they would prefer and let them get paid according to their choice, if it is possible and not too much work.

  3. Hi Dan. I’m one of those who reached 1000 but didn’t do the ad thing because I didn’t know how. I think I just figured it out and I created some Adsense ads in my Google account and then copied the code into the blocks on your “AD” page. The ads are awaiting your review, so we’ll see if I did it correctly. Anyway, maybe if you post some basic instructions, more people will try the Adsense ads. After I figured it out (well, maybe, we’ll see), I realized how easy it is, but if you’re a computer nincompoop like me, then even the easiest things can be frustrating. If I did it correctly, then I vote for letting us control our own destiny and let us create our own ads. Although……I just read naqueen’s post and she has a good suggestion. I guess I don’t care, as long as I did the ads correctly myself. If I didn’t do the ads correctly (which means I’m an idiot), then I’d rather use the other option. Thanks for the chance to reply.

  5. Yep, you did it right… it was as easy as you thought :D

You simply have to make the ads at Google (anyone with a google account should already know how to do this), then paste them in at article-content-king.com. The only thing to be careful of, is that you make ads of the correct size and paste the ads into the box where we ask for an ad of that size.

We also have a suggested colour pallet for follow.

I will make some instructions, you are not the only person to ask.

  6. I am agree with naqueen, it would be better to put both in place and allow the individual to decide which they would prefer and let them get paid according to their choice.

  7. Great idea,

Go ahead. I like the idea of giving importance to individual’s selection.

  8. Hey Dan

    I like the both option

  10. Actually, it’s more work to give you control of the ad space, cos we have to approve everyone’s ads.

A “real” revshare would (after coding) be

    1. Click a button to calculate
    2. Download a mass pay file
    3. Pay everyone

  11. I am happy to recieve advertising via article content king as I do not use Adsense.
