Site Improvements — Popular Articles
Author: Dan Blackburn | Filed under: Article Content King NewsWe have just uploaded some new improvements regarding article ratings and popular articles to help the quality content rise to the top of the site, to ensure that the popular articles lists do not get stale and to give more value to visitors and publishers using the site.
The “most popular” page before today was simply a list of the most 50 “highly rated” articles. The list was pretty stagnant, totally uncategorized and was providing zero value for the visitors. I mean, who cares about the 50 most popular articles on the site?
Here are the improvements.
We have made the most popular page a most popular “area” and created 2 popular pages for each category and subcategory…. The first page is the lastest popular articles in the category, the second page is popular articles that are older than 90 days old.
The 2 pages are to make the popular pages change all the time. After 90 days, if the category is active, the popular pages will change at least every day as articles get old and pass into the archive. These pages will be highly targeted and include the best articles we have in each category, so they should help secure better search engine rankings for the popular articles.
In addition to this, we have also improved the article rating system to factor article views into the equasion. We are now adding +1 to an articles rating for every 100 unique views the article receives. You will probably notice that your articles already have a higher rating (if the article has had more than 100 views).
